Nova Challenge Classes 1 & 2 A CONTROL TYRE HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FOR CLASSES 1 & 2
Currently, any road legal tyre is permitted. Tyres “for competition use only” and those without the ‘E11’ marking, designated for road legal tyres, will not be permitted at any time during the event. Tyre Update - From 2010 an exception for non road legal tyres is being introduced. Competitors will now be permitted to us a "cut slick" Michelin X FR2.0 available at a cost of around £30 from SW Adair Tyres (028 81648428 or 048 81648428). This is to allow a lower cost alternative to the widely used Toyo Proxes R888 tyre. CAR REGULATIONS as at 19th May 2007 1. Cars must be hatchback model 2 door Vauxhall Nova/Corsa 1.2. Engine types 12ST, 12NV, C12NZ & X12SZ carburettor induction and single point fuel injection engines are permitted. Injection engines may be retrofitted with the standard 1.2 Carburettor, namely the Pierberg/Solex 1B1. ‘Newer’ body shape 2 Door Corsa cars (Corsa B) are also permitted but must be registered prior to 31st December 1998. 2. Engines (including heads, camshafts, carburettors and all sub assemblies) and gearboxes as fitted by the manufacturer for types listed in regulation 1 must be in standard form and relative to the particular model. No form of tuning is permitted. Cylinder heads may be skimmed to a maximum of 60 thou from original specification. The carburettor air filter can be replaced with a performance filter if desired. Gearboxes can be of four or five speed types F10 & F13 as fitted to production 1.2 Nova/Corsa cars. Differentials with crownwheel & pinion must only be of types W374, W394 & W418 as fitted to production cars. Close ratio ‘C Type’ gearboxes and any form of limited slip differential is not permitted. The standard ignition and exhaust systems including silencer must be used for cars in regulation 1. Cars will be noise tested and if it exceeds 100 DBA at any time during the event, it may face exclusion. Aftermarket exhausts or silencers are not permitted in any form. 3. The original windows, wiring loom, dash board, and brake system must be retained however hydraulic handbrake systems are permitted. Steering wheels can be replaced with after market types if desired. 4. Cars must be fitted with a 6 point FIA homologated and stamped roll cage designed for the appropriate shell (Nova/Corsa), ‘HOME MADE’ OR MODIFIED ROLL CAGES ARE NOT PERMITTED. 5. Bucket type seats must be fitted for both driver and co-driver together with two FIA homologated safety harnesses (Min. 3 point) which are within the manufacturers validity date. Seat position adjustment rails are recommended. 6. A 1.0 kg, or greater, hand held fire extinguisher is to be securely fitted inside the car. 7. Bonnet Retaining Pins and an exterior battery shut off switch must be fitted and working and a battery securing strap must also be fitted. 8. All pre-1991 Nova/Corsa cars must replace bumpers with the ‘deeper’ type found on cars 1991-1993. Mud flaps for all wheels must be fitted. 9. Brake lights must work. Windscreen washers must be in working order. 10. Any 13” or 14” wheels are permitted. Any ‘road legal tyre’ is permitted but must have the ‘E11’ marking clearly visible. Tyres with any such markings as "not for road use" are not permitted. 11. Suspension units and springs can be replaced; however ‘Coil Over’ types are not permitted. 12. The complete original steering rack must be retained. Power steering is only permitted where fitted as standard. No form of ‘Quick Rack’ is permitted. 13. The entire braking system must be standard and of the type fitted to production models, as specified in section 1. Older Nova front callipers may be replaced with the corsa type for the models listed in section 1. Aftermarket, vented or modified discs are not permitted. Braided brake hoses may be fitted if desired. 14. The original fuel tank must be retained however a guard can be fitted for the tank and a sump protection guard can also be fitted if desired. 15. The car body must be clean, in good condition and free of rust deterioration. Scrutineers will check the shell for weak points, especially around suspension pick up points. Any car found to be unsuitable for use in an event will be refused permission to compete and the entry fee will be retained by the organisers. 16. A cooling fan override switch is recommended. 17. No form of performance fuel or octane booster is permitted. Conventional unleaded or super unleaded is permitted. 18. Anything which is not specifically permitted in these regulations, should be assumed as not permitted. If any doubt arises contact “The Rallysport Association” directly to avoid confusion and possible relegation/exclusion from events.
