Alltrak Rallysport Celebrate 13 Years At The Top

Created in 1997 out of a passion and with a vision for the future of four wheeled Motorsport, Alan Hyde formed Alltrak Rallysport. Alan had previously raced both karts and quads and had been a Northern Ireland Champion five times over three decades between 1979 and 1992. He changed his chosen sport to rallying in the noughties and in a Vauxhall Nova won his class in the RSA Winter and Summer Championships in 2007/8 and also during 2008 he decided to try another new challenge called Autotesting and in 2009 won the ANICC N.Ireland Newcomers Championship. Offers are now available for the fifth decade! (up to F1 considered!) .

The original idea for the Alltrak business was to manufacture a range of high quality off road racing karts, a design based on both kart and quad qualities which could be used on farm land, beaches and terrain other than tarmac. Initially a children’s machine was produced and within a year an adults model was created for commercial use and The Alltrak Rallysport Centre situated on a 23 acre site at Bluestone in Craigavon was opened in August 1997 with an initial fleet of six Alltrak Rallykarts. Having produced around 60 of these high quality, hand built Alltrak machines it was quite clear that manufacturing was not profitable enough to be viable business sense and was discontinued and concentration was targeted solely on learning and building the entertainment part of the business.

A new revolutionary concept was introduced in 2000 at the Kings Hall motor show called The Vauxhall Nova Rally Challenge; which meant that entertainment rallying, normally offered as an expensive schooling experience, was now offered in a real competitive format affordable by basically everyone. Alan had studied the competition, some local, some in the Republic and some overseas and it was realised that to get a decent ‘blast’ in a rallycar was very expensive with prices starting well in excess of £100, in Alan’s opinion, way too expensive in this country and in actual fact, a bit of a ‘rip-off’ really. These packages were wrapped up in the form of a rally school with classes and instructors, lessons, certificates with tea, coffee and biscuits – just to get a drive in a rallycar……….! Because of the expense and format the volume of participants was low and overheads were high so it was a vicious circle.

The Vauxhall Nova Rally Challenge was not a school but a competition where participants could not only drive a rallycar but they would be encouraged to do so as fast as they can, against the clock in a competition against others – a real rally experience with trophies and bubbly for the winners and at a cost, at that time of only £39 it was affordable by almost everyone, ideal for corporate and private groups. It proved to be an instant success.

In 2003 Alltrak Rallysport introduced The Subaru Impreza Driving Experience with one car and also offered a range of packages including Quadbiking, Mudplugging, Digger Driving, Archery and other imaginative activities.

A successful approach to marketing both through conventional media and the internet prompted rapid growth with the introduction of two more Imprezas and the Nova fleet was increased to ten cars and in 2006 the business became the first Irish winner of a Shell Oils sponsored UK and Ireland National award for innovation and success.

Also in 2000 The Rallysport Association was formed again with a unique formula in N. Irelands Motorsport world. Click Here

The Rallysport Association invites owners of rallycars to attend events both run at Bluestone in Craigavon and at other race circuits in the province and now around Ireland. The underlying formula is again family orientated and affordable. To achieve this The Rallysport Association had to remain independent of the Motor Sports Association and Motor Sport Ireland, who are the body's who provide guidance and insurance to car clubs and require a hefty contribution from all income. The Rallysport Association had to acquire its own insurance and have the vision that some day not too far away that they were going to be successful. Due to the fact that all RSA events took place on a ‘closed’ venue and not public roads, children from 12 years were permitted to compete with adult supervision. These kids gain a tremendous amount of experience in their formative years and indeed many have gone on to the top of British and Irish Rallycross Championships as young as 16 and 17 years old while their mainland counterparts are still driving with their ‘L’ plates up! Congratulations to Alistair Fisher and Jonny Greer on their success in the British Rally Championships in 2009.

To say the RSA has been a great success is an understatement. The RSA has promoted more than 140 events since it began in 2000, the most by any club or organisation in the UK by far. Over 450 different competitors have drive in at least one RSA event each season and new participants appear at every event with many now travelling from as far away as Dublin and the West Coast of Ireland.

The basic business ethos for both Alltrak Rallysport and The Rallysport Association is what the low cost airline industry has also achieved - ‘affordability without compromise’ where basically we have opened the door to anyone to come to us and experience the thrill of a wide range of real motorsport activities at prices much lower than our competitors. We put smiles on peoples faces and ensure our customers get much more for much less each time and every time.
